Mac + Crew
In 2006, world traveler, avid boatswain, and all-around cool dude Spencer "Mac" Hines teamed up with two hippie homeowners in the Whiteaker to build a community hostel like no other.
For 15 years, Mac carefully captained the SS Eugene Hostel through name changes (a brief period as Hostel OZ for the Emerald City), hundreds of work traders, two Annex expansions (the former garden house, & our current Treehouse Lodge), and true love.
After meeting the love of his life in 2020, Marietta from the Netherlands, Mac hung up his boots for a final time in May 2022, passing the hostel on to:
Brenna and the Next Steps
With her whole life savings and a mission to keep the dream of the hostel alive, Brenna set out to make the coolest community space in the States even better.
A world-traveler with 60 countries under her belt, Brenna and her team are guiding the hostel into a new age of music, murals, and community partnerships.
We believe in the power of communities to move the world forward, and focus on creating the best environment for work traders from around the world to live and work, which in turn fills the hostel with laughter and love and guests that can't get enough.
